Garibaldi Provincial Park is huge, with most of it complete wilderness, no hiking trails go through a large portion of it. To reach the lake, there is a 5.6 mile (9 km) hike through the woods with over a 2650 ft (800 m) altitude gain. View from along the trail Part of the Barrier, a large volcanic rock wall that holds back the lakes

Barrier Lake, a smaller lake on the other side of the Barrier Garibaldi Lake, elevation about 4750 ft (1450 m), and over 980 ft (300m) deep

We set up our tent inside that hut, since the ground had several feet of snow (the picnic tables were completely buried) Early morning fog on the lake

We weren't expecting this much snow, since it was the end of June, and was over 60F (16C), but there was several feet of snow from the lake on up Nearby is the Black Tusk, a pinnacle mountain with a trail up to it. We tried to find the trail, however it was thoroughly buried and no markers were visible anywhere. After searching for the trail for awhile, we just headed up the nearest side

This is as high as we went, since it was getting very steep and icy, and we had no gloves or crampons. We figured it was better to give up than to keep going and slide a thousand feet down the side. I didn't take any pictures of the Tusk, since you could only see it from down at the camp site, and I figured we would get a better view near the top. High-altitude flowers

Mount Garibaldi, 8786 ft (2678 m), is somewhat visible through the clouds, along with Flat Top at a much lower elevation Stream on the trail to the lake Lesser Garibaldi Lake, between Garibaldi Lake and Barrier Lake

The Barrier, which is a volcanic rock wall over 1500 ft (450m) high
