A 3 hour ferry ride separates the north and the south islands of New Zealand, only about an hour and a half is spent in the Cook Strait, the first half hour is spent getting out of Wellington Harbor, the last hour is spent going through Marlborough Sounds towards Picton Coast near Wellington The Aratere, the newest big ferry

We launched our kayaks from this spot that morning, but when we got back late in the day the tide had gone out and the beach was half a mile farther out More of Abel Tasman Park Te Waikororpupu Springs (aka Pupu Springs), the clearest freshwater springs in the world, north of Abel Tasman


I had to follow this truck for awhile, everytime it went around a turn all the sheep fell to one side, it was pretty amusing Lake Rotoiti, part of the Nelson Lakes region, a bit south of the park. It's the start of the Southern Alps mountain range. Northern reaches of the Southern Alps
