Mt. Cook, the tallest mountain in NZ at 12,316ft (3754m), it rises up from near sea level (also called Aoraki, the cloud piercer) Some mountains in the Southern Alps range, covered with glaciers Mt. Cook trying to hide

The terminal end of the Tasman Glacier, longest glacier in the southern hemisphere at over 12mi (20km) long. This is actually ice here, but it is covered with stone and dirt. The lake has a weird milky color. Meandering streams coming from the end of the glacier flowing into Lake Pukaki

Lake at the end of the Tasman Glacier from overhead Tasman Glacier, again covered in dirt Glacier flowing down into the Tasman Glacier

Mt. Cook from the side Plane similar to ours about to land Crevasses in the glacier

More ice formations Clouds trying to come into the Tasman Glacier's neve (snowfall collection area at the top). The sky up here was the darkest blue I've ever seen.

Our trusty plane after it landed on the glacier A group of planes were landed farther down the glacier from where we were Side wall of Tasman Glacier

Very rough ice Mt. Cook Mt. Cook with the glacial-blue Lake Pukaki

The road begs you to pull over and take a picture Lake Tekapo, also glacial-blue

Church of the Good Shepherd on the shore of Lake Tekapo Church of the Good Shepherd NZ uses these long manmade waterways in between the lakes in this area to move water around to generate electricity
