Mt. Taranaki is a volcano that formed the bump on the western side of the north island White Cliffs, black sand and many caves on the shore, but it was high tide so no walking along the beach Mt. Taranaki (also called Mt. Edgmont), 8261ft (2518m) high, classic shaped volcano except for an extra bump on the back

Since it was there, I decided to go to the top. The tower below in the clouds is about the halfway point. This part sucked, it was steep loose gravel, for every 3 steps up it was 2 steps slid back down Fantham's Peak, the extra bump on Taranaki, is 6450ft (1966m) in elevation, and was a side vent for the volcano

From the top you can see Mt. Ruapehu and Mt. Ngauruhoe halfway across the island Snow in the crater at the top The ocean can be seen from 3 sides of the volcano

Me sitting at the top Back down on the ground, now with cloud cover. It's considered dormant, because it hasn't erupted in 250 years. The clock tower in Stratford, town to the east of the mountain
