New Zealand is different and yet the same, the entire country has a population of around 4 million, but everyone has cars like in the US. We were in Wellington for 4 weeks, but travelled around the country on weekends. Wellington is the capital of New Zealand, and the second largest city, and it's rather hilly and windy. Picture of the harbor from a postcard. View across Wellington Harbor

Roads in New Zealand are fun, most are winding with no guardrail, and sometimes they even have large cliffs at the edge of the pavement. This is Motorway 2 leaving Wellington. Boats from the BT Challenge in Wellington Harbor The race is an around the world race, with everyone using the same kind of boat

Days Bay, across the harbor from Wellington is apparently a popular weekend vacation spot and beach, even though the sand was almost like gravel Weird house at Days Bay

The Wellington Cable Car, this is how we usually got back up the hill from downtown to Weir House Wellington, the orange-roofed building is Weir House, where we stayed, part of Victoria University Odd-shaped building in downtown Wellington

Wellington has an electric bus system that runs off tram-like power lines over the roads The Beehive and the other building make up Parliament

The Beehive Building right next to Parliament, I don't know what it's for Kiwi, the flightless bird that is one of the icons of New Zealand, from a postcard

Later on in the trip the BT Challenge had restarted, but these two boats collided that same day and had to return for repairs
