Excelsior Geyser, known more for exploding than for erupted like a normal geyser, its last major eruption was in 1890, when it is believed that it destroyed its underground plumbing system in a explosive eruption about 300 feet high Bacterial mats are found wherever there is hot water in the park, they are what give the color to the features, other than yellow from sulfur Grand Prismatic Spring, however the cold air caused too much steam so this was all we could see
